Senior Estimator Commercial Electrical Contracting

Are you an experienced electrical estimator looking to take ownership of high-value tenders and play a strategic role in business growth?

At Thomas Nagy, we are seeking a Senior Estimator to lead the full tendering lifecycle for commercial electrical projects across sectors including retail, industrial, commercial fit-out, Rail, and Highways.

This role blends hands-on estimating expertise with leadership in bid strategy, risk management, and continuous improvement of tendering processes. You will work closely with Directors, Project Managers, and clients to deliver competitive, accurate, and profitable submissions.

What you'll do

  • Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates for projects ranging from £50k to £5m
  • Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities
  • Develop comprehensive cost models covering labour, materials, plant, preliminaries, and subcontract packages
  • Price Bills of Quantities from first principles, including Design & Build tenders
  • Issue subcontract and supplier enquiries and negotiate competitive quotations
  • Manage the full tender lifecycle from initial enquiry through to submission
  • Lead pre-tender meetings and strategy sessions
  • Conduct tender reviews, risk assessments, and adjudications for Board approval
  • Produce high-quality, compliant tender submissions and technical responses
  • Identify and implement value engineering opportunities
  • Support decision-making on tender selection and business strategy
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers
  • Provide detailed handover documentation to project delivery teams
  • Maintain and improve estimating systems, cost databases, and benchmarking data
  • Champion the use of Conquest estimating software and mentor junior staff
  • Monitor market trends, pricing movements, and competitor activity

Skills & Qualities

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator, Senior Estimator, or Tendering Manager
  • Track record of securing profitable contracts
  • Experience managing tender handovers to delivery teams
  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical installations and BS7671 standards
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as Conquest, Trimble, or Amtech
  • Strong commercial awareness, including margins, risk, and profitability
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders under tight deadlines
  • Experience in Design & Build tendering environments

Desirable Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent technical background
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or Building Services
